Teen thumb sucking. doctors and such only.? i kinda feel stupid about saying this but i am sick of it. i am 14 years of age and still suck my thumb. i only do it when i am alone at home and to help me sleep. i cant even get to sleep without doing it. i was told at once i do it for comfort and to ease pain. and i noticed that i do it more when i am upset. like crying and all that! but i want to stop. i plan on getting braces in a year or two. and i dont want thumb sucking to ruin it after wards. my mom frequently catches me. but just yells at me. and unfortunately it doesnt make matters any better. no one else knows outside of my family. i dont go to a dentist. or a doctor. yea i know sad but i havent seen a doctor since i was 3. and i havent ever seen a dentist. but thats not the case. i've tried a lot of things. and even hot sauce wont work. cause i am addicted to hot things. i just dont want this ruining my life. cause it makes me feel like i am hiding something. and this is actually the only secret i have. and i cant stand having this as a secret. its annoying to me. and i just need advice on how to stop! |
| Everyone out grows this or other unacceptable behavior in their own time, you will out grow this too. My daughter sucked her fingers well into her teenage years, her grandfather took a picture of her sucking her fingers while asleep and told her that he was going to post it in the local news paper! Of course he was just guyding her, but she was embarrassed and she stopped her finger sucking habit shortly after that. Everyone has to do their own work at breaking a habit and it usually isn't easy. You may want to try wearing some thin gloves (with lots of lotion on your hands) to bed at night. Or try fake nails, you would have lots of trouble sucking your thumb with those on. Keep trying, you will eventually break the habit! I wish you lots of luck! |
If a teen about 15 years of age lost part of his left thumb due to an accident, would it still regenerate? The upper portion of the thumb was chipped off and his whole nail was removed.
Actually, I'm doing this for a friend. I've read an article in a biology newsletter which tells of a certain incident when a guy lost all of his fingers due to an accident. All that was left were bleeding stump-like remains where his fingers once were. The clinic dismissed him carelessly, paying no attention, whatsoever to the juvenile's serious injury. After 2 months, the young boy returned and presented his hand to the nurses who had absent-mindedly treated him before. To their surprise, the fingers were growing back, nails and all! The boy was 11 years old. There was no irregularity found in his DNA structure which could possibly be the surprising cause of his fingers' regeneration.
I was wondering if the same thing would apply to this injured friend of mine. He was already treated, at least seriously in this situation, and he has adapted to his situation rapidly. He wonders about his thumb. |
It CAN happen in some situations. It depends on so many variables that it is not worth hoping for it to happen in your case.
Most guys no longer have the right cells to trigger any kind of regeneration- the articles you have read were published exactly because the situations were so unusual.
Factors include things like amount of damage to bone, muscle, etc., type of injury (clean or jagged, for example, was heat involved, etc.) Personal biology is a factor as well- some people just plain heal better and differnetly.
The bit about 'no irregularity on the DNA' is a red herring. We simply do not understand the entire DNA sequence, and DNA does not directly affect many aspects of regeneration anyway. (It is the plan for the body, it does not directly regulate the body). |

What are the name of some teen actors? I swear to god, if anyone Disney is included, it's an automatic thumbs down, just for warning. Basically, for a project, we read a novel and have to find actors/actresses that suit the role of the characters in the book. My book, well, has lots of teens. I know Dakota Fanning is one, so don't mention her as I already know about her. What are the names of some teen actors/actresses out there? |

Is it ok to suck your thumb when you are a teenager? it seems that my little "cousin" who isnt so litle any more still sucks her thumb, she has been doing it since she was born and now as a teen still does it but at night. she is such a kind and freindly person, and i need some help. Is it ok if your a teenager and you still suck your thumb? why or why not? |
I saw an ultrasound of my daughter when she was in my tummy sucking her thumb. That is how I knew that this was not a "stress" or insecurity issue with her. I let her suck her thumb until she was ready to stop it on her own. I figure why should I mess with how God made her? When she was 12, I began to unplug her thumb in the middle of the night when she was sleeping. Yeah, her teeth are messed up a bit, but she stopped it on her own. She is 15 now, and only has sucked her thumb in the middle of the night just a couple of times this past year.
I had a classmate in high school who sucked her thumb in public, during the day, until she was in her 20's. She still got married and had guys, so it won't affect your cousin's popularity.
Just accept her for how she is. Don't try to change her. She isn't trying to change your habits, is she? |
What does it mean when you put your first finger and thumb in a circle and hold the other 3 straight up? a lot of people have been doing it lately.
it's on the cover of the teen vogue model's booklet that came in this months teen vogue too. |
| It means "Okay." But when I was a guy, people used it to lure you into looking so the other guy could then say something like, "Made you look!" It was annoying. |
In the episode "The One With The Thumb" of Friends TV Series season 1? I was watching this episode(actually I am watching) in Friends, TOW the thumb. And in the start of the episode the group was talking about the measurement of the thumb to the index finger. I was wondering what it was and if anyone could tell me? I know that this series isn't actually for young teens but I'm really curious. I'm 15 by the way and I already tried asking my brothers who are both over 20 and they won't tell me. Is it something 'bad'? I don't really think so, though. Thanks! |
| They were talking about the myth that the distance between a man's thumb and index finger is the same as the length of his penis. It's not actually scientific, or course, but it's a frequently quoted myth. |
Teen bedding [thumbs up every answer]? and i'm getting new bedding as a gift..
